  • Flan dish or cake tin


  • 225 g red lentils
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 onion peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 85 g mature cheddar cheese grated
  • 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 25 g breadcrumbs


  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C
  • Put the lentils in a saucepan with the water
  • Bring to the boil and simmer until soft (about 15 minutes)
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan
  • Fry the onion until soft
  • In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients
  • Grease the flan or cake tin
  • Add the mixture and spread evenly
  • Cook in the oven for about 30 minutes
